WHAT IS TOURISM?

According to Law No. 9 / 1990 concerning tourism CHAPTER I Article 1 stated that tourismis an activity trip or part of these activities are carried out voluntarily and is temporary to enjoy theobject and tourist attraction.

So the notion that tourism contains elements which are
1. Trip activities,
2. Be voluntary,
3. Temporary and
4. The trip was wholly or partly aims to enjoy objects and attractions.
  

While understanding the objects and attractions according to Law No. 9 / 1990 which targeted tourist trip that includes: 
  1. Almighty God's creation, the intangible nature and flora and fauna, such as natural scenery, beautiful panorama, jungle with tropical forest plants, and animals rare animals.
  2. Human works of tangible museums, ancient relics, heritage, arts and culture, agro tourism (agriculture), tourist (water), adventure tourism, recreational parks, and entertainment venues. 
  3. Target special interest tours, such as: hunting, mountain climbing, cave, industry and crafts, shopping, river rapids, places of worship, places of pilgrimage and others.
Then at number 4 in the Law No. 9 / 1990 explained also that tourism is anything that relates to tourism, including business objects and attractions and related businesses in that area.
Thus tourism include
  1. All activities related to tourist travel.
  2. Cultivation of objects and attractions, such as the tourist area, recreation parks, heritage areas (temples, tombs), museums, dams, cultural arts performances, good life community, and that is natural: natural beauty, volcanoes, lakes, beaches and so forth.
  3. Cultivation of services and facilities for tourism, namely:
  • Business tourism services (travel agency, travel agent tours, guides, conventions, incentive travel and exhibition, Impresario, tourism consulting, tourism information);
  • Business tourism resources consist of: accommodation, restaurants, bars, tour transportation and so forth;
  • Business-related services business administration tourism.
Tourism by Robert McIntosh along the Oka A. Gupta Shaskinant Yoeti (1992:8) is a combination of symptoms and the relationship arising from the interaction of tourists, business, host governments and host communities in the process of attracting and serving the tourists and other visitors.

According to Richard Sihite in Marpaung and Bahar (2000:46-47) explains the definition oftourism as follows : Tourism is a journey that people do for a while, which was held from one place to another leaving the original place, with a plan and with the intent not to seek or earn a living in the places visited, but simply to enjoy pertamsyaan and recreation activities and to satisfy the desires that diverse.

Meanwhile, in the opinion of James J. Spillane (1982:20) argues that tourism is an activityto travel with the purpose of obtaining pleasure, find satisfaction, to know something, improvehealth, enjoying sports or rest, performed the task, a pilgrimage and others. 

According to One Wahab (1975:55) suggested a definition of tourism is one of the newindustries that can accelerate economic growth and employment, increasing incomes, living standards and stimulate other productive sectors. Furthermore, as a complex sector, tourismindustries are also realizing classics such as crafts and souvenir industry, lodging andtransportation.

While the notion of Tourism according to Law No. 9 / 1990 on the chapter I chapter 1, that tourism is all things relating to the conduct of tourism. This means that all the activities andaffairs in connection with planning, regulation, implementation, monitoring, tourism, whether conducted by government, private sector and the community is called Tourism.
 
Nyoman S. Pendit (2003:33) describes tourism as follows:
Tourism can also provide a direct impetus to the progress of the progress of construction or improvement of seaport port (sea or air), roads, local transportation, sanitation or health programs, pilot projects Sasana cultural and environmental sustainability, and so forth. All of which can provide benefits and good fun for the community in the area concerned local environment for tourists and visitors from outside. Tourism can also provide encouragement and contribution towards the implementation of development projects in various sectors for those countries that have developed or advanced economies, which in turn tourism industry is a reality in the midst of other industries.
